Sony reportedly set to enable PS5 SSD upgrade this summer

Sony will enable PS5 SSD upgrade, PS5 users be able to take a plastic cover off the PS5 and attach a new storage unit. According to the Bloomberg report, the support for additional drives is coming in a firmware update that will be released this summer.

Next generation games for PS5 can only be run from the console’s internal storage, which has only 667GB of usable space. When you consider the install size of some games, such as Call of Duty, the PS5 can fill up fast.

According to Bloomberg’s report, the firmware update will let for an increase in the speed of the PS5’s cooling fans to avoid overheating in the console.

Sony did not confirm the release time of the upgrade, but said it was working to enable the M.2 SSD storage expansion for PlayStation 5.
