Canadian multinational e-commerce company Shopify announced that it has partnered with TikTok to bring in-app shopping experience to the popular short video platform.

The partnership will enable TikTok users to discover and purchase products from Shopify merchants directly in the mobile app. Just like Instagram, the company will add a shopping tab to merchants’ profiles where their products will be listed.

The companies are currently pilot testing ‘TikTok Shopping’ with Shopify merchants in the United States and United Kingdom. One of the first adopters of the service will be Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics company Kylie Cosmetics.

I built my business on social media; it’s where my fans go first to look for what’s new from Kylie Cosmetics,” said Kylie Jenner. “I have so much fun creating TikTok videos, and I love sharing posts of my fans using the products. That’s why I’m excited for Kylie Cosmetics to be one of the first to let customers shop directly on our TikTok!

The companies said that they will start testing the service with select merchants in Canada in the coming weeks and expand it to more countries in the coming months.

By enabling new in-app shopping experiences and product discovery on TikTok for the first time, Shopify is powering the creator economy on one of the fastest-growing social and entertainment platforms in the world,’’ said Harley Finkelstein, President of Shopify. ‘’We are excited to help this next generation of entrepreneurs connect with their audiences in more ways—and with TikTok as a visionary partner.”

TikTok is uniquely placed at the center of content and commerce, and these new solutions make it even easier for businesses of all sizes to create engaging content that drives consumers directly to the digital point of purchase.’’ said Blake Chandlee, President, Global Business Solutions at TikTok. ‘’We’re thrilled to be expanding our partnership with Shopify and making TikTok more accessible than ever for their merchants.”

Launched in 2016, TikTok is now one of the most popular social media apps with nearly 700 million users worldwide. Its algorithm which shows similar videos to users based on their interests has turned the app into a highly engaging platform and offers a huge opportunity to be discovered for not only users but also businesses of all sizes.
