1.4 Billion WhatsApp Calls Made On New Year’s Eve 2020

On New Year’s Eve 2020, WhatsApp users made over 1.4 billion voice and video calls setting a new daily record, as shared by Facebook. 


Unlike previous years, most of us celebrated the New Year at home, taking a look at 2020 and wishing for better days. However, thanks to the social media applications, we’re still able to connect with our family and friends through voice and video calls.

Social media giant Facebook released  a blog post and announced that its users set new usage records on New Year’s Eve 2020. 

On WhatsApp, more than 1.4 billion voice and video calls were made on December 31 and calls on WhatsApp grew 50% compared to the same day in 2019.

On Messenger, users celebrated the new year with AR effects and the most popular one in the United States was ‘’2020 Fireworks.’’ December 31 was a record-setting day for the Messenger app too in terms of video calls with 3 people and more. On NYE, group video calls increased 200% compared to an average day. 

In addition, on NYE 2020, over 55 million live broadcasts were made globally across Facebook and Instagram.
