You’ll not be able to send and receive messages if you don’t accept WhatsApp privacy policy before May 15th

WhatsApp released a blog post on its FAQ page to answer the question “what happens if you don’t accept its new privacy policy. According to the statement, if you don’t accept the new privacy policy, the app’s functionality will become limited and you’ll no longer be able to send or read messages from the app.

Your account will not be deleted and you’ll still be able to receive calls and notifications for a couple of weeks.

In January, following the intense reaction, WhatsApp postponed the enforcement of the privacy terms that mandate data sharing with the parent company Facebook and other Facebook companies by May 15. Last week, the Facebook-owned company announced that it will go ahead with its privacy policy and display a banner in the app to provide users with more information.

In its latest statement, WhatsApp said you have 3 options.

  • You can still accept the updates after May 15th.
  • Before May 15th, you can export your chat history on Android or iPhone, and download a report of your account and delete your account.
