WhatsApp Usage Increased By 40% Because Of Covid-19

Although many categories such as the Travel in the app markets haven’t been positively affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic, the usage of news, messaging and social media apps continues to increase rapidly. According to consulting firm Kantar’s recent research, WhatsApp usage has increased by 40%. Let’s take a look at the details. 

Billions of people around the world are now staying home to prevent Coronavirus from spreading more. As a result, there has been a huge increase in the demand for mobile applications.

Social media is one of the categories that has gained the greatest increase in app usage rates, as people want to stay connected with their families and friends. Consulting Firm surveyed over 25,000 consumers in 30 markets to provide with more clear insights about this increase. 

According to the company’s survey, WhatsApp has experienced the greatest growth during Coronavirus. There’s been a 40% increase in the usage of the popular messaging app.  

In some countries going through the advanced stages of Coronavirus,  WhatsApp has seen higher increases. For example, the app usage in Spain grew 76%.

In addition, Chinese messaging apps like Weibo and WeChat has experienced a similar increase. Chinese people now use these local social media apps 58% more.
