TikTok is expanding its global advertising network to U.S. advertisers while introducing a new set of agentic AI tools spanning shopping, lead generation, search advertising and campaign management.
Announced during Advertising Week New York, the updates include the U.S. rollout of TikTok Ad Network, or TTAN, alongside Buy Direct, an AI-powered Shopping Assistant and Agentic Leads. TikTok is also extending automation across its Smart+ advertising products and expanding integrations between its advertising platform and third-party AI agents.
The changes broaden TikTok’s advertising operations both inside and outside its core app, with the company increasingly using AI to automate different stages of the advertising and commerce process.
One of the biggest changes is the U.S. expansion of TikTok Ad Network, which allows advertisers to extend campaigns beyond TikTok to nearly 400,000 third-party apps worldwide.
TTAN is integrated with TikTok Ads Manager, allowing advertisers to manage off-platform inventory through the same system used for their TikTok campaigns. The network also includes placement and brand safety controls.
TikTok is also extending AI deeper into commerce with two new products: Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant.
Buy Direct is designed to reduce the number of steps between discovering a product and completing a transaction. Users will be able to purchase directly from a brand through TikTok without leaving the platform, including through a one-click purchase experience from the For You feed.
Shopping Assistant takes a conversational approach. The AI agent can respond to product-related questions while taking previous requests and user needs into account. It can provide information covering areas such as product details, sizing, shipping and availability while helping users move toward a purchase within the same conversation.
TikTok is applying a similar agent-based approach to lead generation through Agentic Leads.
The product uses AI-guided conversations to identify, qualify and convert users showing purchase or service intent.
TikTok plans to make the technology available through multiple surfaces. Lead Agent will operate inside TikTok Direct Messages, while businesses will also be able to deploy the experience through lead forms on their own websites.
The system effectively extends TikTok’s agentic advertising strategy beyond product purchases into categories where businesses depend on lead capture and qualification.
Rather than directing every prospective customer into a standard form, the agent can hold a conversation designed to collect information and determine the user’s intent before passing the prospect further through the advertiser’s funnel.
TikTok is separately bringing its Smart+ automation technology to Search Ads Campaigns.
Search Ads Campaign powered by Smart+ can automate elements of search advertising across keywords and creative while retaining tools for keyword targeting, bidding and search budget management.
The expansion comes as TikTok continues developing search as an advertising surface alongside its feed-based formats. The automated system is intended to match ads with searches while reducing some of the manual work involved in managing campaigns.
TikTok is also introducing Smart+ Creative Selection, which combines creative material from several sources into one approval workflow.
That can include an advertiser’s existing image and video assets, AI-generated creative produced through TikTok’s Symphony tools and content sourced from creators.
The system recommends groups of creative assets based on the advertiser’s business and campaign objective. Advertisers retain control over which recommended creatives are ultimately approved and activated.
TikTok is also updating GMV Max, its automated advertising product for TikTok Shop sellers.
GMV Max automates campaign creation and shifts advertising spend toward content that is performing well in an effort to increase gross merchandise value. The updated system will factor additional business costs into its optimization, including affiliate commissions, coupons and referral fees. The change is intended to move optimization beyond gross sales by taking more of the seller’s underlying costs into account when calculating campaign returns.
Another part of TikTok’s AI strategy is focused on connecting external AI agents directly with its advertising infrastructure. TikTok for Business Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is built on the open Model Context Protocol and allows developers to create AI agents and tools that interact with TikTok’s advertising ecosystem. Those agents can be used for advertising workflows including campaign planning, campaign creation, creative uploads and performance analysis.
TikTok said advertiser use of its MCP for campaign activation and management increased by more than 200% between July and September 2026, based on the company’s internal data.
The TikTok for Business MCP is now available as a connector across several AI platforms and registries, including Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.
The expansion means marketers and developers can increasingly interact with TikTok’s advertising systems from AI tools outside TikTok’s own Ads Manager.
The Advertising Week announcements collectively extend AI into several stages of TikTok’s advertising business rather than concentrating it solely on ad creation.
Smart+ is being used to automate campaign and creative decisions, while Shopping Assistant and Buy Direct target the path between product discovery and purchase. Agentic Leads applies AI to customer qualification, and TikTok’s MCP allows external agents to interact with advertising workflows.
At the same time, TTAN expands the inventory available to advertisers beyond TikTok itself.
The updates arrive as TikTok points to increasing commercial activity generated through its platform. A PF Global economic impact study commissioned by TikTok estimated that activity connected with the platform supported $81 billion in U.S. GDP in 2025, while 54 million Americans purchased a product after watching a TikTok video. Those figures are based on the company-commissioned study rather than independent measurement.
TikTok also cited Kantar’s Media Reactions 2026 research, which found that 84% of surveyed marketers were advertising on TikTok and ranked the platform first among those where marketers planned to increase spending in 2027.
