AppMagic: Casual games revenue holds steady at around $11 billion in H1 2026

The global casual mobile games market generated approximately $11 billion in in-app purchase (IAP) revenue during the first half of 2026, remaining virtually unchanged from the same period a year earlier, according to AppMagic’s latest report. The findings suggest the segment continues to operate in a mature market where publishers are increasingly relying on product optimization, live operations, and genre-specific strategies to sustain growth rather than broad market expansion.

AppMagic notes that the market entered 2026 following a similar pattern to the previous year. While overall revenue remained stable, performance varied significantly across genres. Mature categories continued to dominate player spending, while several emerging subgenres expanded their share by introducing new gameplay mechanics and hybrid monetization approaches.

Puzzle remained the largest revenue-generating genre within casual games, supported by the continued performance of long-running titles and newer releases that successfully combined familiar gameplay with deeper progression systems and frequent live events. According to the report, publishers increasingly focused on extending the lifespan of existing games instead of depending solely on new launches, with LiveOps continuing to play a central role in player retention and monetization.

The report also highlights that not every segment followed the same trajectory. Some previously fast-growing genres continued to normalize after reaching peak performance in recent years, while others stabilized as competition intensified. At the same time, several smaller categories posted stronger growth rates, demonstrating that developers are continuing to identify opportunities through genre innovation rather than relying on overall market expansion.

Beyond genre trends, AppMagic points to evolving studio strategies across the casual games market. Developers are placing greater emphasis on improving monetization, refining user acquisition efficiency, and increasing player lifetime value instead of pursuing aggressive download growth. The report suggests these operational improvements have become increasingly important as acquisition costs remain elevated and discoverability becomes more competitive.

The analysis also underscores the growing importance of hybrid game design. Many successful casual titles now blend mechanics traditionally associated with different genres while combining in-app purchases, advertising, and LiveOps-driven content updates to diversify revenue streams. According to AppMagic, these approaches have helped publishers maintain performance despite limited overall market growth.

While total casual games revenue remained largely flat, AppMagic concludes that the market is continuing to evolve beneath the surface. Rather than being driven by broad expansion, growth is increasingly concentrated among studios that successfully adapt their live content strategies, optimize monetization systems, and identify underserved gameplay niches. As a result, the competitive landscape is shifting from rapid market growth toward operational execution and long-term player engagement.
