Apple will introduce updated App Store age rating rules for developers in Australia and Vietnam starting June 18, 2026, reflecting new regulatory requirements around content classification and youth protections.
The changes will affect how apps are labeled in both markets and may alter existing ratings for some categories.
In Australia, Apple said the 15+ age rating will be removed from the App Store. Apps currently carrying a 15+ label and containing certain content descriptors will automatically move to a 16+ classification.
The update applies to apps that include:
- Unrestricted web access
- Frequent medical or treatment information
- Loot box mechanics
The revised age rating will appear directly on app product pages in the Australian App Store. Apple also asked developers to review their age-rating questionnaire responses in App Store Connect to ensure app classifications remain accurate.
In Vietnam, Apple is introducing a region-specific age rating system to comply with Article 38 of Vietnam’s Decree 147.
Apps distributed through the Vietnamese App Store will be assigned one of four classifications:
- 00+ (all ages)
- 12+
- 16+
- 18+
Ratings will be determined based on developers’ responses in App Store Connect and displayed on app listings within the Vietnam storefront.
The update follows broader regulatory efforts across multiple markets aimed at online safety measures for minors, particularly around social media access, gaming features, and age-appropriate content controls.
Apple has gradually expanded its App Store age systems over the past year, including introducing more granular classifications and additional age-verification mechanisms in selected regions.
The Australia and Vietnam updates are scheduled to take effect simultaneously on June 18, 2026.
