Reddit reported a sharp increase in advertising revenue for the first quarter, driven by growth in its user base and the expansion of AI-powered ad products, as the company continues to position itself against larger digital advertising platforms.
The company posted a 74% year-over-year rise in ad revenue, reaching $625 million for the quarter. The performance was supported by a 17% increase in global daily active users, which climbed to 126.8 million, while U.S. daily users rose 7% to 53.5 million. Average revenue per user also increased by 44% year over year, reflecting improved monetization across the platform.
Executives attributed much of the revenue growth to advancements in Reddit’s advertising technology stack, particularly its AI-driven optimization tools. The company’s performance-focused product, Reddit Max, is designed to automate campaign management and improve outcomes for advertisers, similar to offerings from competitors such as Google and Meta. Early data indicates that advertisers using the product have seen reductions in cost per action alongside increased conversion rates.
Reddit has also expanded its commerce-focused advertising formats, including Dynamic Product Ads, which place shoppable links directly within user discussions. The company reported a significant increase in return on ad spend for advertisers using these formats, supported by a rise in high-intent conversations across its communities.
Performance advertising has become a larger share of Reddit’s overall business, now accounting for approximately 60% of total ad revenue. The number of active advertisers on the platform grew 75% compared to the same period last year, while lower-funnel ad revenue recorded triple-digit growth.
The company’s AI capabilities extend beyond campaign optimization to creative production tools, including automated copy generation and image formatting tailored to Reddit’s ad placements. These features are intended to streamline ad creation and improve relevance within its discussion-based environment.
Despite broader concerns about declining traffic across parts of the open web, Reddit reported a 30% increase in weekly users arriving via search. The company has benefited from strong visibility in search results and its role as a frequently cited source in AI-generated summaries.
Looking ahead, Reddit is targeting continued audience expansion, with leadership outlining long-term goals of reaching 100 million daily users in the United States and 1 billion globally. At the same time, the company is making adjustments to its login systems and moderation tools to improve user verification and reduce invalid traffic.
Market response to the results was positive, with shares rising in premarket trading following the earnings release. The outlook reflects growing investor confidence in Reddit’s ability to scale its advertising business, particularly as AI-driven tools reshape how campaigns are created, targeted, and optimized across digital platforms.
