Aptoide has returned to Google Play for the first time in more than a decade with the launch of Aptoide Games, marking a significant step for third-party app distribution on Android following recent changes to Google’s Play Store policies.

The new app, now available through Google Play, enables users to discover and install games from Aptoide’s marketplace. While Aptoide has long operated as an independent Android app store, its return to Google Play comes after Google introduced new policies that allow third-party app stores to reach users through the Play Store.

According to Aptoide, the launch represents a milestone for competition within the Android ecosystem. Rather than functioning as a traditional game marketplace, the app serves as a gateway to Aptoide’s broader distribution platform, giving developers an additional channel for reaching Android users.

The release follows Google’s rollout of its third-party app store distribution program, which enables eligible app stores to publish their own apps on Google Play. The program also allows developers to decide whether their app listings can appear in participating third-party app stores through new catalog management settings in the Play Console.

Aptoide said its return to Google Play creates new opportunities for developers seeking alternative distribution channels while allowing users to access games through an additional marketplace. The company noted that its platform has accumulated more than one million apps and serves over 430 million users worldwide.

The Google Play version currently focuses on games and is designed to comply with Google’s latest Play Store requirements. The app provides access to Aptoide’s game catalog while operating within the framework established by Google’s updated policies.

The launch also reflects broader changes in Android app distribution. Recent updates to Google Play have opened the door for eligible third-party app stores to distribute their storefront apps through the Play Store, giving users more choice while allowing developers to expand distribution beyond Google’s marketplace.

Aptoide’s return ends an absence of more than ten years from Google Play and represents one of the first major examples of a third-party Android app store taking advantage of Google’s new distribution framework.
