Apple has announced the finalists for the 2026 Apple Design Awards, highlighting apps and games across six categories: Delight and Fun, Inclusivity, Innovation, Interaction, Social Impact, and Visuals and Graphics.

The annual awards program recognizes app and game experiences across Apple platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. This year’s selection reflects continued developer focus on AI tools, accessibility, spatial computing, immersive storytelling, and cross-device experiences.

AI, visionOS, and Spatial Experiences Feature Prominently

Several finalists this year center on AI-assisted workflows and visionOS-native experiences.

In the Innovation category, Detail: AI Video Editor was shortlisted for its AI-powered editing tools, including automated silence removal, multi-angle editing, and teleprompter generation features built around Apple’s Foundation Models framework.

The NBA’s NBA: Live Games & Scores also earned a nomination for its visionOS experience, bringing multi-game viewing, immersive video formats, and spatial statistics overlays to Apple Vision Pro users.

Another visionOS project, D-Day: The Camera Soldier, combines immersive video, Spatial Audio, and interactive elements to recreate historical narratives through archival restoration.

Gaming finalists in the category include TR-49, an alternate-history puzzle title, Blue Prince, which mixes procedural exploration with narrative gameplay, and Pickle Pro, a mixed-reality pickleball experience developed specifically for visionOS.

Accessibility and Inclusive Design Remain a Key Theme

The Inclusivity category places emphasis on accessibility features, adaptive interfaces, and broader representation.

Guitar Wiz, developed by India-based solo creator Bijoy Thangaraj, includes VoiceOver integration, Dynamic Type support, contrast enhancements, and color-independent guidance tools aimed at improving accessibility for guitar players.

Hearing Buddy, created by a developer with hearing loss, uses on-device speech recognition to generate real-time captions and summaries during conversations.

Meanwhile, productivity app Structured introduces AI-assisted task suggestions and planning workflows designed to support neurodivergent users.

Game finalists under Inclusivity include Sago Mini Jinja’s Garden, Pine Hearts, and Civilization VII, with the latter recognized for its broader representation of historical leaders and civilizations.

Indie Projects Appear Alongside Major Franchises

The finalist lineup combines independent developers with established publishers and studios.

Titles such as grug, Metaballs, and Blippo+ appear in the Delight and Fun category, while game nominees include PowerWash Simulator, Ball x Pit, and Is This Seat Taken?

On the larger production side, the Visuals and Graphics category features Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition for macOS, Arknights: Endfield, and indie puzzle title SILT.

App finalists in the same category include Tide Guide: Charts & Tables, Caradise, and (Not Boring) Camera, reflecting continued interest in high-fidelity visuals, spatial rendering, and interface design.

Social Impact Category Highlights News, Health, and Environmental Topics

The Social Impact section includes projects focused on journalism, health monitoring, storytelling, and environmental awareness.

Primary: News in Depth, a visionOS-native news platform, was selected for its spatial presentation of news stories and issue-focused reporting format.

Katha Room brings Indian folklore and Gond-inspired visual design into digital storytelling, while Harvee uses Apple Watch health signals to generate recovery recommendations processed on-device.

Among games, Consume Me addresses topics such as mental health and body image, Despelote explores cultural identity through football and childhood memories, and Spilled! centers on environmental restoration through gameplay.

VisionOS Expands Its Presence in the Awards Lineup

Compared with previous editions, visionOS applications appear more frequently across categories including Innovation, Interaction, Social Impact, and Visuals and Graphics.

Projects such as Metaballs, NBA: Live Games & Scores, Pickle Pro, Primary: News in Depth, and Caradise indicate continued developer activity around Apple Vision Pro and spatial interfaces.

Apple is expected to announce the winners during WWDC 2026, following the release of this year’s finalist list.
