Apple is now accepting iPhone Duo-optimized apps and games through App Store Connect, giving developers time to prepare their software for the company’s new device before it reaches customers on October 23.
Developers can build or recompile their existing apps using Xcode 27.1, which adds development support for iPhone Duo. Apple has also provided tools for testing how apps adapt to the device’s different configurations as it prepares for the launch later this month.
Apple has released Xcode 27.1 Release Candidate 1 following several beta versions that introduced support for building and testing apps for iPhone Duo, according to 9to5Mac.
Apps built or recompiled using Xcode 27.1 can be submitted through App Store Connect immediately. Their App Store product pages will also display a badge indicating that the app has been optimized for iPhone Duo.
Developers can use Device Hub to see how their apps behave on iPhone Duo across different poses and orientations. The tool is intended to help developers identify layout and interface issues before deploying their apps to the physical device.
The new form factor places additional emphasis on adaptive layouts, with developers needing to account for changes in available display space as users move between different device configurations.
Apple has published dedicated developer resources covering areas including adaptive layouts, multiple displays and scenes, camera experiences and interface design for iPhone Duo. The company is also holding workshops and developer sessions focused on preparing existing apps for the device.
Alongside app compatibility, Apple is updating App Store requirements and creative specifications to account for the new hardware.
Developers can now prepare screenshots and app previews specifically for iPhone Duo, with updated specifications available for different orientations. Apple has also released design guidance and downloadable templates covering App Store assets such as product page headers, search result assets, screenshots, app previews and In-App Events.
A new preview tool in App Store Connect allows developers to see how screenshots, product page headers and other metadata will appear on an iPhone Duo product page before submitting the assets.
The company is also introducing a future requirement tied to the device. Starting in April 2027, apps and games submitted to App Store Connect will be required to include screenshots for iPhone Duo.
That gives developers several months after the device’s launch to update their App Store assets before iPhone Duo screenshots become mandatory for new submissions.
The requirement will arrive alongside broader App Store submission changes planned for April 2027. Apple says iOS and iPadOS apps uploaded to App Store Connect from that point will need to be built with the iOS and iPadOS 27 SDK or later and target iOS 15 or later.
Apple is also expanding the way developers manage creative assets across the App Store. An updated Asset Library brings app previews, screenshots and other creative assets into a central location, while developers can preview how those materials appear across product pages and search results.
The opening of App Store submissions marks one of the final stages of Apple’s developer preparations before iPhone Duo becomes available.
According to Apple, the device will reach customers beginning October 23. Pre-orders will open on October 16, while customers will be able to prepare for pre-orders beginning October 12.
With submissions now open, developers have just over two weeks to publish iPhone Duo-optimized versions of their apps ahead of the device’s retail release.
